Harry Did Not Make Bobby Flay Grill It Program

Filed under: BBQ Articles ALL, BBQ Auditions — Tags: , , — harry @ 11:07 pm

Unfortunately my January 2009 Bobby Flay Grill It audition video did not make the final 13 chosen for the 2009 season.  I prepared two knockout dishes: Grilled Lobster and Seafood Paella with Chorizo and Saffron, and Seared Ahi Tuna with Maui Onion Dressing.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me by voting, commenting on my video, and sending it to all your friends.  Maybe better luck next year!

Here is the Dear John email I received:

Thanks everyone for applying to be on Season 2 of Grill It! with Bobby Flay! Because of all the fantastic video submissions, narrowing it down to 13 final Grill Guests was extremely difficult. Thanks for all the memorable moments, laughs, unique recipes, skilled editing techniques and pet cameos! Joking aside, many of you seem to be talented cooks! We do appreciate all of your enthusiasm for the Food Network and Bobby Flay and hope that you’re able to tune in to watch our upcoming season this May.

If you’re interested in hearing about upcoming Food Network casting opportunities please look for Embassy Row (our production company) on Facebook using the email foodnetworkseries@gmail.com

Keep on cooking!

WOW!!! Harry gets call from Bobby’s Production Team after video is uploaded!

February 4, 2009

On Feb 3, I posted that last Saturday, my childhood buddy Peter, who’s a professional videographer, shot and edited a 4-minute Bobby Flay audition video for me (please wait for it to load).  Peter submitted the video for me today (I couldn’t overcome the technical glitches last night with my upload attempts).

About two hours later, I got a call from Lisa, a member of Bobby’s production crew from New York. They watched my video and want me to audition to cook with Bobby while he’s out in California in March to shoot the next 12 episodes of his Grill It program! They are going to rent a house in California and will be shooting all episodes from that location. With some luck, I may get to cook with my favorite chef in March. I’m not out of the woods yet as I expect there will be many competing for a spot on the 12 episodes for the next TV season. But, hey, I’m a professional BBQ competitor right so I’ll apply the same zeal and perseverance that won us the BBQ Grand Championship last December.

You can help me get a spot in the next season by going to Bobby’s website and posting your comments and ranking my video. This is a popularity contest so the more positive rating and comments, the better will be my chances. Please ask 5 friends and family to do the same as I hope to generate lots of buzz for my video. Remember, you MUST post comments and rank my video.

I am so jazzed as I’ve always dreamed about what it would be like to cook with Bobby Flay. That would be like playing one-on-one basketball with with Kobe Bryant!

Thank you very much and I’ll keep everyone posted about my adventures on my blog. Wish me luck and may I break a leg!

Making Bobby Flay’s Audition Video

February 3, 2009

In response to a recent casting call posted at the California BBQ Association website, I shot a 4-minute audition video on January 31, 2009 to be submitted for the Food Network’s Bobby Flay Grill It program.  I’ve followed Bobby’s career for many years and I’m a huge fan.  It would be such a privilege to be able to cook with him.  The final video is being edited by my childhood friend Peter (www.PeterPhun.com) who’s a commercial videographer.    Once ready, I’ll post on Bobby’s Food Network site.  Please go there to rate it (hint: 5 stars) and post a comments (hint: you loved it!) so I may score in the popularity rankings like American Idol. I will shamelessly provide free BBQ samples if you do my bidding.

Here is my home video of the shoot, stills, post production work (e.g., blanching the lobster for grilling), bloopers, and credits.   Thanks again Peter for helping me out. Hope I get called on the show amid the very stiff competition from all the cooks in America who want to be on Bobby’s program!
